Booming: Television News Channels in India

Written by Shiv Prasad on 1:09 AM

News programmes have suddenly become hot property and are vying for attention with other popular programmes telecast in different channels. All major television broadcasters are including at least one news channel to their bouquet. The biggest headache for launching a satellite channel is programme software for round the clock. In this juncture, newsgathering is a major task for the 24-hour news channels. To cater this task, the emerging electronic channels have always made an attempt to cover all the incidents irrespective of position, location and time. These channels not only revolutionized the concept of news on Indian television but also changed the news formats. Before 1990s, Doordarshan had monopolized newscast on Indian television and also turned the news programs into a dowdy exercise. Now the private channels made the news an essential commodity like food, cloth and shelter. The strong point of all today’s news bulletins is their topicality, objectivity, glossy editing and high-quality visuals. News has traveled a long way from the DD era. From Local events to International events, breaking news to news analysis, television soap to page3 news, every happening comes under purview of news. In this article, we have covered some significant changes in news broadcasting in India before and after the Gulf War.

Indian Television - Flash Back

Television in India is undergoing significant changes in the current liberalized environment. To understand these changes, one needs to have some brief idea of the road covered by the television channels so far. The journey started as an experimental basis with a financial grant from UNESCO in 15th September 1959.

Golf War – The Catalyst

Post-1990 satellite television in India has become transnational in nature. It coincided with the entry of multinational companies in the Indian markets under the Government policy of privatization. International satellite television was introduced in India by CNN through its coverage of the Gulf War in 1991. In August 1991, Richard Li launched Star Plus, the first satellite channel beamed the signal to Indian subcontinent. Subhash Chandra’s Zee TV appeared in October 1992. It is India’s first privately owned Hindi channel to cater the interest of Indian viewers. This ignition followed by Sony and a little later by domestic channels such as Eenadu, Asianet and Sun TV.

Major Players

Doordarshan’s monopoly was broken in 1992, when private television channels infiltrated into the Indian boundaries and entertain the viewers as much as possible. In the beginning of 1990s, the private channels offered only entertainment programmes. The entertainment programs include family drama, comedy serials, children programmes, cartoons, movies, talk shows, recipe shows, musical concerts, non-fiction programmes etc.

Regional Leaders

To cater the interest among the Indians, Doordarshan televises programmes in Hindi and associate Official languages. It has launched a number of Regional Language Satellite Channels (DD - 4 to DD - 11 and DD - 13) and telecast programmes in Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Kashmiri, Oriya and Tamil. The Regional channels relayed by all terrestrial transmitters in the state and additional programmes in the Regional Language in prime time and non-prime time available only through cable operators. The Doordarshan regional satellite channels telecast major news programme with some entertainment programmes.
If you think about the private regional channels, they have followed the path of the Big brother (i.e Doordarshan). They are neither completely entertainment channel nor exclusively news channel. They are following the middle path and claiming themselves an infotainment channels. The private channels televise through the state dominant languages.

Conclusion

Now the television industry becomes more specific. In this competitive market, channels are targeting specific viewers. News channels attract more viewers beyond their target by producing interactive and interesting programmes. Every channel needs to do an extensive research on different concepts and different themes to attract more viewers and in the same time more advertisers.

Genius Brain Training

Written by Shiv Prasad on 6:04 AM

It is high time you start enjoying to the fullest all that life has got to offer you even as you exploit the possibilities available to you by developing your brain in the way and manner it should be done.

While it is desirable to determine the health of your brain, it is equally advisable that you take steps to train, exercise and develop it to its full potentials like that of a genius.

Up ahead, it must be mentioned that majority of people living only DRIFT throughout life having been persuaded and finally yielding over to the personal conviction (however faulted that might prove) they are not good enough for the kind of life that is their hearts' desires.

One thing that is noteworthy in all of this lies in the fact that they have only succeeded in underestimating their intellectual abilities and the true potentials of their brain. Are you among this number too seeing they are in the majority and abound greatly in every place and wherever you find people?

Parts of the benefits you stand to gain and enjoy with a healthy brain include:
1. Increased alertness and awareness.
2. Clearer and quicker thinking.
3. Improved memory for names, numbers, directions, places and locations, etc.
4. Better concentration at work, school or play.
5. Improved creativity and problem solving skills.
6. Improved mental stamina and coordination.
7. Improved confidence.
8. Improved lifestyle (which is the ultimate and best of all).

Being judge, can you truly and as a matter of fact say that all the above mentioned benefits are daily experiences with you? Do you take decisive steps to ensure that you harness the full potentials of your brain with each day that passes and every available opportunity that presents itself to you?

What Is Good Money?

Written by Shiv Prasad on 9:17 AM

So many people today want to know how to make good money. But what is good money? Good money to one person may be chump change to another. Therefore, a very important thing is deciding what is good money to you.

For the sake of this article let us say good money is enough money to pay your rent and mortgage, buy food, pay for your transportation and utilities including your phone, buy some clothes, have some pocket money and some extra money to save. You essentially want to be able to pay all of your monthly living expenses, have some entertainment and be able to sock away a bit for the future or hard times.

This certainly is not an unreasonable demand for a reasonable person. If you are willing to devote at least 8 hours a day laboring at something, at least it should support you. But the reality is that for many people this is not the reality. It more incomes just to barely make the bills and this is not luxury living.

How did we all get into this mess in the first place? Who designed this scenario for us? Some people say the Federal Reserve which is not really a government organization but an organization made to look like it belongs to government. They say that this organization is owned and run by a handful of wealthy families who concocted this grand scheme to enslave the whole world and to ensure that they stayed wealthy.

If you have any consumer loans or a mortgage you may have felt the effects of how greedy lenders can make our lives sheer misery. Today I looked at one of my credit card statements only to discover that the due date was a moving target.

Designing a USP for Your Business

Written by Shiv Prasad on 5:58 AM

Your brand image is primarily an emotional construct. Emotion is probably always more powerful in swaying people than reason, but people like to be able to rationalise their choices. This is where awareness of another advertising theory - the USP - can be helpful to you.

The USP, or unique selling proposition, formula was developed by Rosser Reeves, an ex-copywriter who became head of the Ted Bates agency in New York. He wrote an excellent book, largely dealing with this theory but also covering other aspects of advertising, called Reality in Advertising.

To establish your USP, you compare your product or service with your competitors. Then you determine one feature you have which no one else can offer. This is your unique selling proposition. It is this which you must promote singlemindedly.

A 1987 issue of Marketing Week, the British trade paper, gave a wonderful example of how little the average marketing executive understands the phrases he deploys with such gay inconsequence. The subject was 'Store credit cards'. A bank executive said: The whole point of a Marks & Spencer, Boots, Dixons or even Fortnum & Mason card is to bring people into the store - and to provide a bit of a LISP' (my italics).

How a credit card can be a unique selling proposition when the same facility is offered by any number of retailers is difficult to comprehend. It reminds one of people who refer to things as being 'rather' unique, or 'fairly' unique. Here are some typical USPs:
'Cleans your breath while it cleans your teeth.'

Colgate toothpaste. 'The too good to hurry mint.' Murraymints. 'There's more for your life at Sears.' Sears Roebuck. 'It ain't fancy but it's good.' Horn & Hardarts. 'The mint with the hole.' Polo Mints. 'It takes a tough man to make a tender chicken.' Perdue Chicken

And, finally, another gentleman in the chicken business: 'It's finger lickin' good.' Colonel Sanders

One of the problems with the USP is that you sometimes have to rely upon some pretty trivial points of difference to arrive at your proposition - as you can see from the list above. And although, for simple products a good USP may often supply a successful selling idea, I think it is difficult to arrive at one for complex services such as American Express or The Consumers Association.

However, comparing yourself against your competition to discover what USP may exist is a great aid to clear thinking. For example, I was able to improve results for Odhams' Kathie Webber Cookery Club by writing a headline which was simply a personal way of expressing a USP: `My cookery cards mean you control your weight without giving up luscious food you love to eat.' This did well in the UK, and even in France, home of gastronomy. Moreover, subsequent approaches to selling this product revolved around this original thought. ====

Eating is a pleasure but is also completely and totally necessary for our survival. Very few of you will actually consider the food that you put into your body; is it actually any good for you? We pay almost no attention to what we eat and then wonder why we wind up suffering from acid reflux.

There are some things the human body does need. It needs water. It needs protein. It needs iron. The problem is that what you eat is normally what you want to eat as opposed to what the body itself actually needs. Needs Versus Wants are two very, very different things. What you eat says a lot about who you are and how you live your life. Your body is basically an engine and if you feed it with crap it's going to kickback and cause you trouble - sooner or later. If you find that a certain pattern of eating or a certain type of food is causing bouts of heartburn then pay attention to what your body is telling you and either change the pattern or eliminate the type of food causing the problem.

Wedding Planning And Making Money Online

Written by Shiv Prasad on 9:20 AM

It is very true that couples will spend a lot of money of their wedding. As a result, there is really a great potential for you to make money online with wedding planning. What I mean here is that you will be able to make money online by selling items related to wedding planning.

When a couple is planning for a wedding, they have to consider a lot of details. For example, they have to send the save the date card at least half year before and send the wedding invitations 12 weeks before their wedding.

People are very busy nowadays. They may not really have enough time to plan for their wedding. Even if they have the time to do so, they may not really know the etiquettes. It can be even more difficult if it is a Chinese couple. There are a lot of etiquettes associated with Chinese wedding traditions. The couple may not really understand or know all these etiquettes.

As a result, there is a possibility of making money online by creating ebooks on wedding etiquettes or ebooks on tips about wedding planning. These kinds of ebooks can be sold very well. In fact, you can see that there are some people who are selling such ebooks when you try to search in clickbank.

Selling ebooks is not the only way to make money online with wedding planning. You can even be able to make money using PPC networks. There are a lot of advertisers in this field and you can earn quite a bit of money with it. You may start a website on free wedding invitation templates and make money. It is not difficult to do so at the end of the day. However, if you are doing SEO work, the keyword wedding can be a very challenging one. As a result, you will still want to concentrate on long tails instead.

Of course you may also consider starting an online shop which sells wedding gifts. The gifts are certainly something very important. However, the capital involved should also be considered. You may need to spend some money on the inventories. Yet you may consider join some affiliate programs which sell such products and this may be an excellent choice.

Digital Equipment Corporation

Written by Shiv Prasad on 5:39 AM

Digital Equipment Corporation was a pioneering American company in the computer industry. It is often referred to within the computing industry as DEC (this acronym was frequently officially used by Digital itself,[1] but the trademark was always DIGITAL). Its PDP and VAX products were arguably the most popular minicomputers for the scientific and engineering communities during the 1970s and 1980s. DEC was acquired in June 1998 by Compaq, which subsequently merged with Hewlett-Packard in May 2002. As of 2007 its product lines were still produced under the HP name. From 1957 until 1992 its headquarters was located in an old wool mill in Maynard, Massachusetts.
Digital Equipment Corporation should not be confused with Digital Research; the two were unrelated, separate entities; or with Western Digital (despite the fact that they made the LSI-11 chipsets used in Digital Equipment Corporation's low end PDP-11/03 computers). Note, however, that there were Digital Research Laboratories where DEC did its corporate research.
The company was founded in 1957 by Ken Olsen and Harlan Anderson, two engineers who had been working at MIT Lincoln Laboratory on the TX-2 project. The TX-2 was a transistor-based computer using the then-huge amount of 64 K 36-bit words of core memory.
When that project ran into difficulties, Olsen and Anderson left MIT to form DEC. Venture capital of about $70,000 was provided by Georges Doriot and his American Research and Development Corporation. AR&D later sold its investment in Digital for approximately $450 million, certainly the best VC return ever to that point. At the time, the VC market was hostile to computer companies, and investors shied from their plans. The original business plan named the company "Digital Computer Corporation," but AR&D required that the name be changed to DEC. Instead, DEC started building small digital "modules" such as flip flops, gates, and transformer drivers that could be combined to run scientific and engineering experiments. In 1959, Ben Gurley started design of the company's first computer, the PDP-1 (PDP being an initialism for Programmable Data Processor) as a means of attracting VC funding. As he put it, "We aren't building computers, we're building 'Programmable Data Processors'." DEC began operations in a Civil War era textile mill in Maynard, Mass., where plenty of inexpensive manufacturing space was available.

Liquid Crystal Display

Written by Shiv Prasad on 10:28 AM

A thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) is a variant of liquid crystal display (LCD) which uses thin film transistor (TFT) technology to improve image quality. TFT LCD is one type of active matrix LCD, though it is usually synonymous with LCD. It is used in televisions, flat panel displays and projectors.

Small liquid crystal displays as used in calculators and other devices have direct driven image elements – a voltage can be applied across one segment without interfering with other segments of the display. This is impractical for a large display with a large number of picture elements (pixels), since it would require millions of connections - top and bottom connections for each one of the three colors (red, green and blue) of every pixel. To avoid this issue, the pixels are addressed in rows and columns which reduce the connection count from millions to thousands. If all the pixels in one row are driven with a positive voltage and all the pixels in one column are driven with a negative voltage, then the pixel at the intersection has the largest applied voltage and is switched. The problem with this solution is that all the pixels in the same column see a fraction of the applied voltage as do all the pixels in the same row, so although they are not switched completely, they do tend to darken. The solution to the problem is to supply each pixel with its own transistor switch which allows each pixel to be individually controlled. The low leakage current of the transistor prevents the voltage applied to the pixel from leaking away between refreshes to the display image. Each pixel is a small capacitor with a layer of insulating liquid crystal sandwiched between transparent conductive ITO layers.

The circuit layout of a TFT-LCD is very similar to that of a DRAM memory. However, rather than fabricating the transistors from silicon formed into a crystalline wafer, they are made from a thin film of silicon deposited on a glass panel. Transistors take up only a small fraction of the area of each pixel; the rest of the silicon film is etched away to allow light to pass through.

The silicon layer for TFT-LCDs is typically deposited using the PECVD process from a silane gas precursor to produce an amorphous silicon film. Polycrystalline silicon (frequently LTPS, low-temperature poly-Si) is sometimes used in displays requiring higher TFT performance. Examples include high-resolution displays, high-frequency displays or displays where performing some data processing on the display itself is desirable. Amorphous silicon-based TFTs have the lowest performance, polycrystalline silicon TFTs have higher performance (notably mobility), and single-crystal silicon transistors are the best performers.

ALTA Land Surveys

Written by Shiv Prasad on 2:26 AM

Real estate transactions generally need a land title survey to document important details influencing the ownership of the land, such as improvements, easements, rights-of-way and other elements. It provides evidence of any matters that may affect the title or value of the property that are included in record documents and that physically exist on the property.

An ALTA land survey is a survey that is generally required on commercial property transactions. Commercial properties include: restaurants, convenience stores, motels, shopping centers, warehouses, manufacturing plants, service stations, hotels, resort properties, individual retail units, automotive dealerships, office buildings and industrial complexes. In a commercial property transaction, a lender, title company or owner may require a land title survey which meets the ALTA/ACSM Minimum Standard Detail Requirements. Additionally, an ALTA survey shows improvements, easements, rights-of-way, and other elements impacting the ownership of land. It provides the title company with the information required to insure the title to the land and improvements to the high degree that a commercial development may require.

An ALTA survey is usually ordered by a lending institution when a piece of commercial property is being mortgaged or upon completion of a construction project in order to release the funds being secured by the project. Sometimes, a lending institution may require an ALTA survey for a residential mortgage too. Most residential parcels are not required to have this type of survey, though there are some cases that a Title Company will require this type of survey to be done.

Latest iPod

Written by Shiv Prasad on 3:50 AM

t was too good to be true. Just when we thought we might actually have a day free from Apple rumors (after all, doesn't Microsoft deserve to have the rumor mill to itself for at least a little while?), ThinkSecret has hit us with word that the "true" video iPod is still coming, and that it will have a 4-inch display, rather than the 3.5-inch one that was claimed in earlier rumors. ThinkSecret also reports that the video iPod is on target for a March or April release, pending content deals with studios (which we assume will come through, given that Steve Jobs basically owns Disney now). Of course, even if the video unit is delayed, we assume Stevie will still schedule another big press conference sometime in the next few weeks. After all, Apple has yet to announce the Intel-powered eMac and the pleather case for the shuffle.

Cheap Digital Camera

Written by Shiv Prasad on 12:47 AM

Do you want to share your images or videos with your family or friends? If yes, then find out for a chic and handy digital camera, equipped with potent megapixel camera, flamboyant screen, excellent camera lens, optical zoom, huge storage space, self-timer, and manual features. Such a digital camera can randomly capture your moments, which you want to share them with your friends or family. But you might think its cost. Initially, digital cameras were expensive; but with the rapid increase of manufacturers in the market, the prices of digital cameras tend to fall, making the devices easily getable for all. You will find a cheap digital camera from the house of Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Sony, Kodak and the list goes on. The term “cheap digital camera” does not mean that the camera lacks in software-based features and functions. Every camera, for instance consists of a built-in flash, a viewfinder for framing the picture, battery inserting chamber, brightness controller, megapixel resolution, zoom lens, storage space, and a video capability to make short movies. It does not mean that a cheap digital camera may never deliver good photographs and videos. No doubt, a high end digital camera renders optimal services, but if you have a cheap digital camera with various shooting options such as underwater, foliage, indoor, portrait, and automatic; your motive to look for a high end digital camera might come to an end. Because, this multifunctional cheap digital camera can easily outdo a high end digital camera in terms of pricing, features, and functions.

Is VoIP Really Affordable?

Written by Shiv Prasad on 11:22 PM

VoIP has been marketed as the affordable alternative to traditional land line calling since it first started being advertised in commercials years ago. As a stand alone product the pricing seems too good to pass up, especially with the promise of quality voice communications for less but is it really an affordable option that anyone can afford?

The technology of broadband phone typically allows for calls to be made domestically for one small monthly fee throughout the country on the most popular calling plans and usually has very low international rates associated with the plan as well. Technology has allowed for better voice quality so that you never even notice a difference between VoIP service and your old phone line. It is a great advancement for consumers and businesses worldwide looking to make calls for less, or is it?

VoIP is the abbreviated terminology for Voice over Internet Protocol. The keyword to look for in this definition of VoIP is Internet. The word Internet means that this technology cannot be accessed without an Internet connection and while it may not seem like much, the word Internet in relation to VoIP is everything.

The truth is, in reality it will only be as affordable as the Internet providers will allow. Your Internet connection or the lack of thereof is a pricing factor that must not be forgotten when considering the move from traditional phone service to broadband phone. You need a minimum of 90 Kbps upload and download speed to run VoIP from your Internet but if you use your computer for browsing the web with the service you may find you need a lot of bandwidth to function while talking over your service.

Some companies such as Packet8 use compression technology that better enable communications with less bandwidth usage meaning you may not need to beef up your broadband access to utilize the services. Some companies like Vonage however it is necessary to make sure you have the required bandwidth if not more to use services uninterrupted.

If you do not have Internet access then you will want to consider getting it and it is recommended you go high speed. The common problem with high speed is not usually the costs of Internet but what you have to purchase in addition to Internet.

Cable high speed Internet usually requires the purchase of television cable services as well. Do you watch much television or want cable television in your home? You might have to consider that option if you are wanting cable Internet.

With DSL the usual option requires a phone land line to your place of residency and that creates a whole new set of problems. You are wanting to replace your old service not combine it with VoIP. You end up paying for a land line and monthly broadband phone fees.

Printing power tips

Written by Shiv Prasad on 9:07 PM

Printer ink isn't cheap, and there's nothing worse than getting stuck without paper or a new cartridge when you absolutely need to print a document. As with most tech tools, modern printers have more bells and whistles than most people bother to learn about. But a little knowledge can go a long way. Today I've got a few tips for saving on ink, paper, money and time while you print.

Current Selection:- Why waste toner printing online ads, navigation elements, or other extraneous junk? Or what if you just need to print a phone number or graphic, rather than an entire page? You may already use page range printing, but most programs allow you to print even smaller portions of a document.

Print Preview:- Printouts don't always come out looking like you'd expect, especially when printing from the Web. For instance, when printing directions from Google Maps, I often get a page at the end of the printout with nothing but a header and footer. In cases like these, it pays to use your browser's Print Preview function to make sure what you see really is what you'll get.

Duplex Printing:-Many larger printers offer an automatic duplexing option, allowing you to easily print on both sides of a sheet of paper. Unfortunately, the option is not always enabled by default. If you're not sure whether your printer is capable of duplex printing, look in the driver settings or on the printer's configuration page for information on duplex or double-sided printing.

All-In-One:- Windows users may also want to try out a copy of FinePrint. FinePrint installs as a go-between printer driver, providing WYSIWYG preview, n-up printing, and other functions regardless of the software or printer being used. If the $49.95 price tag sounds steep, a feature-limited trial version is available to test before buying. And with the program's wealth of features, it may pay for itself.
